David Brabham qualified fourth in class and sixth overall for the seventh round of the American Le Mans Series at Road America in a qualifying session where the Acura teams ran strongly in the LMP2 class.

Brabham was barely four-tenths of a second behind the similar Acura of Andretti Green's Franck Montagny, with the Frenchman leading the LMP2 challenge in second overall. Brabham had been quickest prior to Montagny's record breaking lap, while Adrian Fernandez and Romain Dumas also managed to edge ahead of the Patron Highcroft entry on the time sheets.

Such was the close nature of the session that Brabham was barely four hundredths of a second slower than LMP2 points leader Dumas, while he was barely a tenth of a second away from Fernadez and a place on the second row of the grid.

“We were struggling on Thursday but everything started to come together in the second practice session today,” he said. “The qualifying set up wasn't quite as good and it was a really close session but I managed to post consistent times and the car felt comfortable.

“With a little fine tuning in warm up tomorrow I'm confident that we have a strong race car set up. It's a long race so the aim will be to make the most of it and get as many points as possible.”
