Turner secures Petit Le Mans seat

Drayson-Barwell has announced the signing of works Aston Martin Racing driver Darren Turner for the Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta.

Turner, who taken GT1 class honours on two occasions in the Le Mans 24 Hours, will join Paul Drayson and Jonny Cocker at the wheel of the only Aston Martin Vantage GT2 on the ALMS grid.

In its first year in the series, the Drayson-Barwell team has taken a best finish of eighth in class at Mosport last month and will now look to improve on that in the prestigious 1000km event.

"We are absolutely thrilled that Darren will be joining us at Petit Le Mans," team principal, Mark Lemmer said. "Paul Drayson has been getting quicker and quicker all season, and together with drivers of the calibre of both Jonny and Darren we are very confident of producing our best showing of the season at Road Atlanta."

Turner himself, who has won at Road Atlanta in the past, admitted he was thrilled to get the chance to return to a circuit which he ranks amongst his favourites.

"I'm really pleased to be joining the team at Road Atlanta as it's one of my favourite tracks on the ALMS schedule," he said. "I was lucky enough to win there in an Aston Martin DBR9 GT1 two years ago and know the track pretty well which I hope will be a help to the team. I'm confident we can all work together to get a good result at this prestigious race."
