Corsa focused on 2009 ahead of finale

With its Zytek 07S fully repaired after its Road Atlanta shunt, Corsa Motorsport will make its second start in LMP1 this weekend as the American Le Mans Series season draws to a close at Laguna Seca.

The team debuted its new car in the Petit Le Mans but was forced out when suspension failure at the final turn saw Stefan Johansson go off into the wall at high speed.

However, with the car now repaired, the team will be out on track at the Monterey circuit this weekend, with Johansson once more at the wheel alongside Johnny Mowlem and Gunnar Jeannette.

“This weekend is all about preparing for next year,” Steve Pruitt, team owner and principal, said. “We are encouraged by what we saw early in the race at Petit Le Mans and feel like we are making the right steps in order to put a competitive team together for next season.

“Our LMP1 program is in the active development stage and we feel like Stefan's experience as an F1 driver as well as his previous experience with Zytek is crucial as we move forward. He has been able to provide the engineers with instant feedback that has been really helpful thus far and we are excited he has agreed to drive for us here at Laguna Seca.”

The team will use Zytek's newly developed 4.5-litre engine this weekend for the first time. The engine is the same one around which the hybrid powered system that the team plans to use was designed, which takes it a step closer to integrating the full hybrid technology expected to debut at Sebring in 2009.
