ALMS confirms Winter Test

The American Le Mans Series has confirmed that the traditional Winter Test at Sebring will take place as planned next month.

Reports had suggested the test could be cancelled, in much the same way as the ACO has cancelled the test day for the Le Mans 24 Hours due to the current economic situation.

However, IMSA and the ALMS has moved to quash those reports by confirmed that the test will go ahead as planned ahead of the season opening Sebring 12 Hours.

"Despite reports to the contrary, IMSA and the American Le Mans Series will hold its annual Winter Test at Sebring International Raceway from January 26-28, 2009," a statement read. "Teams from the American Le Mans Series, the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear and IMSA Lites presented by Hankook each will have the opportunity to gather at the site of the season-opening Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring presented by Fresh from Florida.

"The deadline for teams to register during the 'early period' is January 2, 2009. In addition to the three days of testing, a four-hour window for media opportunities on Tuesday, January 27 is part of the schedule."
