Drayson Racing has announced that it will take part in the full American Le mans Series for the 2010 season.

The team, which is making its first foray into LMP1 competition in the Petit Le Mans this weekend, will contest the ALMS campaign with its new Lola Coupe having run in the Le Mans Series this season with its GT2 Aston Martin Vantage.

As well as competing in America, the team will also look to secure an entry into the Le Mans 24 Hours in June, having debuted at La Sarthe this season – retiring from the GT2 battle at the 22 hour mark.

Scott Atherton, the president and CEO of the ALMS, was delighted with the news that Drayson's husband Paul and the team would return to the series, having last raced in the ALMS full-time last season.

"The return of Lord Drayson to a full schedule in the American Le Mans Series speaks volumes about his dedication to the development of alternative fuels, energy efficiency and improved automotive technologies that benefit the environment,” he said. “The fact that he has chosen the ALMS as his platform further affirms the Series as the world's leader in such endeavors. As the UK's Minister for Science and Innovation, Drayson has become one of the world's leading voices with these initiatives.
