Schultz: I doubt we'll go to Oulton again

Team Modena team principal Graham Schultz has admitted that he doesn't feel Oulton Park is the ideal circuit for modern GT machines as his outfit continues to count the cost of its huge accident during the opening round of the Avon Tyres British GT Championship.

The team was left with extensive damage to its Lamborghini Gallardo after Piers Johnson rolled out in spectacular fashion at Cascades on the opening lap of race one after contact from the ABG Motorsport Viper of Craig Wilkins as the pair diced for position, with the team now facing a race against time to prepare for the second round of the year at Knockhill.

However, with the start of the new Le Mans Series season this weekend in Barcelona, Schultz admitted that time would be tight as the team seeks to get the Gallardo ready for the trip to Scotland.

"We had to strip the car down to assess the damage and can see there is a lot of work to do," he said. "With the first LMS race fast approaching we had to focus on the Aston Martin this week before it left for Barcelona, and the crew will then work on the Lamborghini before they leave for that race.

"I feel right now that Oulton Park is not a circuit for modern GT cars. Ours was not the only big incident there at the weekend, and there were cars damaged last year when the series visited. At the moment, I don't think we will be racing there again."

Oulton is not a 'backwoods track' it has character and most drivers list it as one of their favourite tracks. Compare it with the blandness of other UK tracks - Silverstone, Rockingham etc and you will realise that it is also popular with spectators. Are we to assume that Mr Schultz would refuse to race at any street circuits if the chance arose as I am sure that they would also be unsuitable.
