Rollcentre, Rosso Verde secure Spa poles

Rollcentre Racing and Rosso Verde UCB have taken a pole each for the second rounds of the Avon Tyres British GT Championship at Spa.

The event will see the British teams running alongside their Belgian counterparts, and it was Dan Brown who led the British brigade in qualifying for race one, posting a quickest time of 2min 29.566secs in the championship leading Rollcentre Racing Mosler. That put the teenager ahead of the debuting Ginetta G50Z of Andrew Smith, with the Ascari of David Jones slotting into third.

"I have raced at Spa before," said Brown, "but that was in a single-seater. The Mosler is a bit different around here. I'm very pleased with pole, and I just hope that I can do tomorrow in the race what I did at Oulton Park, and lead all the way."

Gregor Fisken took fourth on the grid in the second Mosley, while the top six was completed by Andrew Howard's Aston Martin and the Dodge Viper of Craig Wilkins. Jody Firth took the Team WFR Ginetta G50 to the GT4 pole.

In the second session, Allan Simonsen obliterated Brown's time to secure pole for race two with a stunning lap of 2min 26.396secs, which put him nearly two seconds clear of Aaron Scott in the ABG Viper.

It gave the Rosso Verde – UCB team pole position with a performance that surprised Simonsen's partner Hector Lester.

"I don't know how Allan did that,” he said. “He knows his way around Spa all right, but to wring that sort of performance from the Ferrari shows his class."

Martin Short was third in the first of the Moslers, from Ollie Bryant in the Ginetta, with Stuart Hall and Adam Wilcox rounding out the top six.

GT4 pole this time around went to Hunter Abbott in the Rob Austin Racing Ginetta.
