Team Modena continued its run of breaking the lap record at each circuit it has competed on this season after another good run from the Lamborghini Gallardo in the latest round of the Avon Tyres British GT Championship.
With Adam Jones back behind the wheel alongside Matt Owen, the car started from the second row of the grid and a stunning start saw Jones blast into the lead on the run to Copse. From there, the BTCC racer simply drove away from the field with the lap record falling on just the second lap.
Continuing to lap more than a second quicker than anyone else, Jones extended his lead to more than half a minute before pitting to hand the car over to Owen, although the decision to change all four tyres on the car meant that the youngster emerged right with the front-runners.
Not quite able to match the pace of the established drivers running in the other cars, he slipped down to eighth place but came home on the lead lap for a solid finish for the car in only its fourth race.
“It couldn't have got much better at the start,” Jones admitted. “We were one the second row but I got a good start compared to the front two and got on the inside into Copse. I knew that was my chance to make a break so I got my head down and got on with things.
“When you find out who is starting the race you know the lap times people are capable of doing and I knew what I could do. When I got into the lead I wanted to then build as much of a lead as I could before Matt got in the car.
“The car is very good, it is an awesome car to drive and it's a pleasure to be asked to drive it. The brakes are phenomenal, the handling is very balanced and it is easy to drive. With a good team behind it you couldn't ask for more.”
Team boss Graham Schultz was also pleased with performance of the car during the race, and also happy with the continued showing from his drivers.
“We are very pleased with the car and you saw first hand the stint that Adam did, 36 seconds in front at the driver change, quickest lap on lap two with full fuel tanks and another lap record,” he said. “The car itself is now the best we can get it and we have got it engineered to precision.”
