The Team Modena Lamborghini will take no further part in the latest round of the Avon Tyres British GT Championship at Thruxton after suffering an engine problem during the opening race of the weekend.
With Adam Jones running alone in the Gallardo GT3, the car qualified in a solid fourth place for race one, although an engine issue then forced the BTCC racer to sit out second qualifying altogether.
Although the team was hopeful of fixing the problem, Jones soon found himself down on power and having pitted on lap eleven, the team elected to retire the car and then withdraw it from the weekend with an engine issue that can't be solved at the Hampshire venue.
"It's disappointing - the car has not run properly all weekend," team principal Graham Schultz admitted. "The boys have really tried to get it sorted, we don't give up, but a compression test has shown two cylinders down, which means we have lost a valve ring or a collar, something like that, and it requires special tooling work on.
"I was looking forward to a good weekend's racing, but these things happen. We have been fortunate with both the Lamborghini and Aston Martin and had some good racing this season."
The Lamborghini becomes the second car to exit the weekend with engine trouble, with the GTC class Morgan having been ruled out after the opening free practice session.
