Barwell reveals fuel concerns

Barwell Motorsport has revealed that the visiting Belgian GT Aston Martin of Eddy Renard and Vincent Vosse will run on standard-spec pump fuel for the second Avon Tyres British GT Championship race at Oulton Park following issues with the championship's Sunoco fuel during race one on Saturday.

Both the #72 car and the #07 of Andrew Howard and Jamie Smyth ran into problems with the fuel during the first race of the weekend which saw the engine on both cars shut down.

While the #72 will not be eligible for championship points as a result of the switch, the #07 will continue to run on the supplied fuel and will be able to score.

“During the second part of race one at Oulton, a fuel compatibility related problem resulted in the shutting down of the ECU and therefore the shutting down of the engine on both cars,” a team statement issued shortly before the start of race two read. “As a result of these problems, and in conjunction with Aston Martin Racing's recommendations, the team will run the visiting Belgian GT series Aston Martin on standard spec pump fuel for reasons of safety, with the car not racing for championship points.

“Regarding the Beechdean entry, the team will run the car on the championship spec fuel for the race. Due to Barwell and Beechdean's commitment to the British GT Championship, we are prepared to run the car on the championship-spec race fuel, even though there is possible risk to the car and its engine. We want to put the car on the grid for the sake of the championship, and so the crowd can see as full a grid of GT cars as possible, and watch an entertaining race.

“The #07 car will be eligible for championship points.”
