Johnston takes Rolex lead

Derek Johnston and the Radical UK Cup takes a firm grip on the lead of the Rolex 24 At Daytona Driver Challenge presented by Sunoco after a dramatic Spa Francorchamps weekend.

Both the Avon Tyres British GT Championship and the Radical UK Cup raced at Spa 8-10th of May, with Johnston in Radical UK Cup coming out on top with two wins of which one was in a typical SPA "heaven opens" dramatic race.

Unfortunately, for Johnston, the Radical UK Cup had a slight dip in contenders over the weekend with only 9 starting cars resulting that even though Derek Johnston, racing with experienced Stuart Moseley, won both races he could only count 90% of maximum scores for winning.

The British GT Championship was exceptionally dramatic with previous Driver Challenge leader Stuart Hall suffered from a drive through penalty in race one and then crashed out with his Mosler in race two in the opening misty and slippery first quarter of the one hour race resulting in that he dropped from top of the leader board on an average 120 points to 67.5 and 4th overall in the Driver Challenge standings.

Daniel Ricciardo in British F3 is second behind Derek followed by Allan Simonsen in British GT. However, expect major changes in the standings after next weekend when the first SPEED Sports Prototype Series has its first race at Anglesey 16th of May.
