Griffin gives MTech Donington pole

MTech will start the two-hour Avon Tyres British GT Championship race at Donington Park from the front of the grid after Matt Griffin posted the quickest time in qualifying for the delayed race meeting.

The Irish driver posted a quickest time of 1min 08.620secs at the wheel of the team's Ferrari 430 to storm to top spot in qualifying, with a best lap of 1min 08.620secs being just over seven-tenths of a second clear of the Ferrari of Adam Wilcox.

“It was a fantastic lap," Griffin's driving partner Duncan Cameron said. "Matt definitely has some wind in his sails today. I think we're fairly confident for tomorrow. So long as the car lasts, we'll certainly be up there..."

Completing a Ferrari 1-2-3 on the grid, the Rosso Verde-UCB car of Allan Simonsen and Hector Lester took third place while the RPM Ford – with Alex Mortimer in for the race alongside Philip Walker – will start fourth.

Aaron Scott and Craig Wilkins start from fifth in the ABG Motorsport Viper ahead of points leaders David and Godfrey Jones in the Preci-Spark Ascari and the Rollcentre Mosler of Dan Brown and Martin Short.

The Supersport KTM X-Bow of Marcus Clutton and Phil Keen starts eighth ahead of the two GT4 Ginettas – with the Century Motorsport car of Nathan Freke and Benji Hetherington taking class pole ahead of Team WFR's Nigel Moore and Jody Firth.

The Chad Racing Ferrari, which had to undergo an engine change, will start from the back of the field with Jose Balbiani onboard for his second meeting of the season alongside Paul Warren.
