Camier on pole after curtailed qualifying

Leon Camier has inherited his fourth ViSK.com British Superbike Championship pole position of the season after changeable weather conditions at Snetterton forced the top ten shootout to be cancelled.

Lap times were taken from the second knockout phase after a shower towards the end of the session left too much of a gamble between slick and intermediate rubber for the shootout to be considered safe.

With teams and riders choosing to have the third phase cancelled, it was declared that Camier would assume pole position for the fourth time this season.

Leading an Airwaves Yamaha 1-2, James Ellison found himself in the right place at the right time after what has been a difficult weekend thus far, even if he was half a second behind his team-mate.

The decision to conclude qualifying early played into the hands of some riders, including Josh Brookes, who recorded his best starting position in BSB thus far in third position on the HM Plant Honda, alongside fellow CBR1000RR rider Stuart Easton. Brookes' team-mate Glen Richards, however, was left down in 13th place after the late shower at the end of Q2 prevented him from making a last gasp attempt at lifting himself inside the top ten.

Others to be disappointed by the weather included Simon Andrews, who had been a strong contender for pole position having been a pace setter through free practice. He, however, will start sixth, behind MSS Colchester Kawasaki team-mate Julien Da Costa, the Frenchman recording his best starting position in fifth.

Ian Lowry once again made it into the top ten in seventh, ahead of Rob Mac Racing's Chris Walker, while John Laverty and Jason O'Halloran also found themselves in the right position to snare top ten starting positions in ninth and tenth.

Beyond Richards, other big names to miss out included Karl Harris in 11th position, while Michael Rutter starts down in 20th after suffering a mechanical problem on his Worx Crescent Suzuki.

In between, Graeme Gowland starts 12th, with Gary Mason 14th to continue his unbroken run of Mirror.co.uk Cup pole positions. Atsushi Watanabe, Jon Kirkham, Martin Jessopp, Peter Hickman and Tom Tunstall fill positions 15th down to 19th.

Prior to the decisive Q2, Buildbase Kawasaki's Tristan Palmer was the big loser during the opening qualification phase, being left down in 21st position.
