Josh Brookes believes things are beginning to come together for himself and the HM Plant Honda team after qualifying on the front row for the first time at British Superbike level.

Although the circumstances of his third position proved to be somewhat fortuitous after the top ten shootout was cancelled, Brookes has nonetheless been a competitive force throughout the weekend.

With this in mind, Brookes was delighted to have a clear Snetterton circuit in front of him as he targets a maiden BSB race win.

“I was on P1 for much of the opening part of qualifying, so I was quite confident I could be up there in the third session too. Nonetheless, to be third on the grid will really work for me because it is the first time I have been on the front row in the British championship, so we are slowly beginning to get back to where we should be.

“Although it has taken a long time, I think we have finally reached a position where we can be a threat to Leon. I'm not sure how much he can lift his game, but this will unfold in the races and if I can be there then that will be brilliant.”

Although he was disappointed to miss out on the chance to battle for pole position, Brookes joined Leon Camier in admitting there weren't many alternative options other than to curtail qualifying due to difficult weather conditions.

“There weren't many options. We only have one bike and it is so easy in those conditions to slip off and damage your good bike. If it was all dry, or all wet then we'd be happy to go out, but it was a dodgy 'in-between' condition. In those conditions it isn't much fun and we are really risking coming down.”
