Walker, Gowland laud Rob Mac progress

Rob Mac Yamaha enjoyed arguably their most buoyant ViSK.com British Superbike weekend of the season thus far at Knockhill after both Chris Walker and Graeme Gowland posted strong top ten finishes in both races.

Although not quite able to scale the heights of their podium finish at Donington Park, both Walker and Gowland were competitive through the weekend to eventually pick up a decent points haul each.

Rising from 11th to eighth in the standings, Walker came away from Scotland clutching a seventh and fifth place finish, although he admits his first race result could have been better had he not been caught up in Karl Harris' opening lap accident.

“We have made mega progress with the bike and we are now running with the boys. Karl swiped me in the first race and made me work hard for seventh, but I guess I was lucky to survive, he is a bit solid to have running into the side of you!

Race two was good for us, I lost the tow a bit when I had a moment but I managed to keep the pressure on Rutter who made a mistake and we got a great fifth place. I feel we made great progress and our race pace has stepped up. We are only half way through the year so plenty of time for us to move up the Championship table"

Gowland, meanwhile, enjoyed his best ever finish at BSB level with a seventh in race two, while his eighth in the opening encounter completed a successful outing for the youngster.

"What a great weekend for me and my team, my best qualifying and two awesome races. We have all worked hard to get the bike working like this and we all deserve a weekend like this.

“For me I feel that I have made great progress and moved to the next level. The whole weekend went without any problems and I feel I have learned so much. My fitness was needed as 30 laps around here was pretty tough but I feel great and ready for Mallory in a couple of weeks."

The third Rob Mac Yamaha rider, Jon Kirkham, was sidelined by injury following a crash in free practice.

I'm in no way Walker's biggest fan, but he's had some cracking rides already on a bike that's obviously not even close to the GSE bikes. Gowla's having a half-decent season too, seems to be picking up with his results every race weekend.

Rob Mac's not had the best of seasons, but I bet he's glad to have gotten rid of Crasher Harris, who can't even make an overtake nowadays if you look at the first race at Knockhill.
