Camier targets winning finale

2009 MCE British Superbike champion Leon Camier has the chance to sign off his title-winning season with 20 race wins during this weekend's Oulton Park triple header.

The event could well mark Camier's final BSB races, before a predicted move to World Superbike next season, and will definitely signal the end of a five-year relationship for GSE Racing and title sponsor Airwaves.

Camier, who rode for Aprilia in WSBK last weekend, has won 17 of the 23 races so far this season - and also won all three races at the previous triple header weekend, at Brands Hatch in August.

"These past couple of weeks have been pretty hectic so I've not had a chance to sit down and really let the Championship sink in. But it does feel as though the pressure is off to some extent,” admitted Leon.

Camier, who also won both races during the first visit to Oulton in May, believes team-mate James Ellison and HM Plant Honda's Josh Brookes will provide his biggest challenge.

“The motivation to win is as strong as ever, although I know it's not going to be easy,” he said. “James is going to be fast straight away, as will Josh Brookes. The GSE Racing team has been incredible all year, so I know they'll give me the best possible package once again."

Ellison took his fourth win of the season last time out at Silverstone and is sorry to see the season end.

"I'm so excited about this weekend, but also disappointed it's the final round,” he said. “The past three race meetings have gone better and better for me. We've made small changes here and there, and now the Airwaves Yamaha is really working for me.

“It's a shame we couldn't have got to this point earlier, but the championship now belongs to Leon and all I can do is go out there, top practice, and try and win all three races,” he declared.

Ellison will start the final round with a 51 point advantage over Hydrex Honda's Stuart Easton in the fight for second in the series.
