Final race let down for top Honda Easton

Stuart Easton took his second BSB victory with a thrilling triumph in race one of the Oulton Park triple header - only for the season to end on a sour note when the Hydrex Honda rider crashed out of race three.

Saturday's restarted and shortened opening race was widely considered the best of the year, with Easton and team-mate Tommy Hill trading places with Airwaves Yamaha duo Leon Camier and James Ellison.

New champion Camier looked like he had seized control heading into the last lap, but a determined Easton wasn't to be denied and dived up the inside at Hizzy's chicane, holding on for the second win of his BSB career - and his first 'proper' victory after Camier's race one troubles at Croft.

Race two then saw Camier gain his revenge over Easton by just 0.08sec, something the Scotsman planned to reverse during the final race of the season.

However, on the fifth lap, Easton clipped the kerb at Britten's chicane and crashed out, amazingly his first crash of any description during 2009. Easton nevertheless finished the season third in the championship, and the top Honda rider.

“On the whole it's been a good weekend - I got pole position, won the first race and then pushed Leon extremely hard in the second so it's only the final race that let me down,” said Easton.

“I could see Leon was edging away and I was desperate to pass Tommy, which led to me getting a bit frustrated. When you're so close to someone through that chicane, you can't see the kerb and I just got caught out when the bike decked out.

“It's a bit disappointing to end like that but I can't complain too much as it's been a great year with wins and podiums along the way so a big thank you to everyone connected with the team.”

Easton is yet to confirm his plans for 2010.
