Martin announces Rob Mac deal

Guy Martin has announced that he will leave Hydrex Bike Animal Honda to ride for Rob Mac Racing Yamaha in 2009.

The road-race specialist, who took his sixth successive Gold Cup victory around the Oliver's Mount road circuit in Scarborough last weekend, has struggled to get the Hydrex Fireblade working as well for him as team-mate James Ellison in BSB, with his best finish a ninth place at the opening round.

However, Martin looks set to have another crack at BSB next season - on the new 'big bang' R1 no less - whilst also pursuing race wins in the road events.

"Next year is all sorted, I'm on Yamaha with Rob McElnea," Martin wrote on his official website. "When it comes to preparation there is no better Yamaha team to be with than Rob's. They've been building trick bikes since the beginning of time, so I'm 100% sure this is my key to success at TT. Also, there will be no better bloke to get me sorted for success on the short circuits. Rob's been their done it and all that."

Rob Mac Racing's future with Yamaha had looked in doubt after it was replaced by GSE as the factory's main BSB team for the next three years.

However, Martin's comments confirm that Rob McElnea's outfit will not only continue its long Yamaha relationship in BSB next season, but also headline Yamaha's road-racing effort.

Karl Harris is currently tenth in the British Superbike Championship for Rob Mac Racing and is tipped to remain with the team, alongside Martin, in 2009.
