Glen Richards joined Shane Byrne in being crowned title winner on 'Champions Day' at Silverstone after securing the necessary points to win the Supersport series.

Managing it with one race in advance, Richards needed just to finish 12th or higher, but did that easily with a run to fourth place on the MAP Embassy Triumph.

A poignant win for a team that yesterday revealed they're in financial trouble following the loss of one of their substantial backers, MAP Embassy Racing had good reason to celebrate after Paul Young crossed the line in second.

The winner of the race was Richards' closest title contender Hudson Kennaugh, the South African rider claiming a comfortable victory after passing early leader Young.

"Glen deserved to win the title; he has had a great season,” Kennaugh said. “Next year we will be back fighting again for the championship."

Behind Young was Cadwell Park winner Steve Plater on the AIM Yamaha, while Richards beat Jamie Westmoreland across the line.

Rob Frost had run as high as fourth before crashing out.
