Cal Crutchlow was left disappointed with the outcome of the latest Bennetts British Superbike round at Silverstone after failing to win either race from pole position.

The second consecutive race Crutchlow has started from the top spot, he led for several laps of the first race when HM Plant Honda team-mate Leon Haslam was taken down, but couldn't resist the advances of Leon Camier.

Blaming his failure to scamper away into the distance on a wrong tyre choice, changes to the bike for the second race gave Crutchlow confidence to push harder, but after climbing up o second place following a poor start, he lost several places with an off down the escape road at Becketts.

Soaring back up through the order, Crutchlow was on course for a top five finish when a technical problem brought him to stop at Abbey, much to his frustration.

“I'm gutted at how things have gone this weekend, to be frank,” he admitted. “We chose what we thought were the best tyres for us in the first race, but they didn't perform exactly how we expected, so perhaps it was a difference in temperature.

“For race two things were better tyre-wise and I was confident, but we made some changes to the front suspension and that made the bike turn a little differently so I ended up running off the track around Becketts. After that I got my head down until the technical problem saw me retire at Abbey.”

Crutchlow's mixed weekend means he has just a six point advantage over Camier in the battle for fourth in the standings heading to the season finale at Brands Hatch.
