Jason O'Halloran led the casualties during an eventful first knockout qualifying session at Brands Hatch.

The Aussie rider, who starred at Silverstone aboard the SMT Honda, gradually tumbled down the order over the course of the 25 minute session, eventually ending up 21st and over the necessary threshold.

He wasn't the only championship class rider too miss out, with Peter Hickman failing to make it through to Q2 on the Red Viper Honda.

Francis Williamson, Victor Cox, Chris Burns – who was twice stopped for his smoking MV Agusta -, Leon Morris, Tom Tunstall, Malcolm Ashley and Martin Jessopp join them on the sidelines.

Up at the front, Cal Crutchlow was fastest, just ahead of HM Plant Honda team-mate Leon Haslam. Haslam, however, had to recover from a heavy fall in the opening minutes of the session, forcing him to sprint back to the pit lane for the spare bike.

Michael Rutter was another to experience a tumble in the session, although he qualified comfortably too.
