Plater should stick to road racing, why anyone employs him for a championship is beyond me as he spends most of his time on the floor or injured, surely there are more deserving riders for that seat in bsb championship

There is a bigger picture here Woody. Without running in BSB Aim would struggle to raise funds for the road racing scene.... The same could have been said For David jeffries (RIP) Never quite had it on the short circuit stuff but boy was he quick on the roads, Admitedly Steve wont threaten any of the factory boys on the AIM bike next year, but he will develop the bike to suit him for road racing and gain a few quid in the meantime for when it really matters.
Knowing what AIM yamaha's targets are next year I cant think of anyone more deserving Than Steve.

zx9r steve. Its not a road with no kerbs. Pure road racing takes might big knackers and ultramooth riding and not so much of the full on ability. Short curcuit is exzactly the opposite and the bikes have to be set up perfctly to get the best out of them. Road racing is not so critical. SAo there are guys that can set a bike up for short curciut racing and those that cant, on the roads its not so critical. The technicians are only as good as the feedback the rider gives them.

People on these forums tend to be so incredibly hard on guys who possess riding talent so way in excess of their own it's laughable. It reminds me of the old George Burns joke: "Shame all the people who should be running the country are too busy driving cabs and: cutting hair."

Let's not forget Steve Plater was a BSB winner not so very long ago. Now it seems he's extending his career as an endurance racer and by becoming a roads specialist. Good luck to him.

gambalunga, we're not hard on these guys, its an opinion given the facts as we see it. Plater was a race winner in BSB, or was it two? Hardly a glittering career in comparison to Rossi, is it? And they are the facts, It;s not made up. No doubt Plater is more talented than us, but it doesn't make him as talented as others, and he's not. Maybe Plater should be driving a cab cos at BSB he no longer has the talent to compete at that level, he didn't really have it in the first place. He has had factory bikes and factory tyres, he therefore has no excuse. I for one wish him luck too on the roads and at this time in his career is a good move, especially if he has a mortgage to pay!
