There should be a wider debate about season times.
Almost every year, the first race at Brands is either cold, or wet, or both.
Equally, the final race in October suffers in the same way.
The season needs to start later, and finish earlier with less of the silly gaps during the peak of the season that we always seem to get - like 5th May, then a gap until 26th May. Or 29th June, then nothing to 20th July.
Start mid April, run an event every second weekend without gaps, finish end of September.

BSB » Heavy snow at Brands

The bad weather that hit the pre-season BSB test at Snetterton has also affected the first round of the championship.

It doesn't take a meteorological Genius to work out its the track on the East side of the country which are most likely to have problems with snow in March / April tho does it?
(Just don't pick Silverstone for first in 2009 cos it'll probably rain & be flooded).

Iggy - it didn't start snowing until 7am.even then the track didn't get covered for a couple of hours. if it had stopped the circuit would have been cleared and the gravel raked and it would have been good to go albeit a bit late.

Also last year the weather was glorious all weekend and it was the same dates

i was there yesterday, it was cold and windy but ok. tho riding back the M25 was heavy downpour all they way, which was nice-not lol.

pleased i came back last night cos i was gonna stay in kent the night and come back today, the snow would of been even more interesting on the M25

tho i do agree that there shouldnt be the Summer breaks that F1, Moto GP and superbikes have. its prime time for fans to want to go and best weather, they should be racing more not less.

i live about 25 mins away and the snow is still here, but not falling any more. i camped the whole weekend and it was all fine until this morning, its the only time i have been in many years that it has been bad weather for the first round, normally sunny. just over a month and i will be back

I think it was freakish weather - Britain for you. I have been to Brands in October for the last round of the BSB for the last 3 three years and have: got sunburnt (2005), soaked (2006) and well the weather was nice for October (2007).

I think the weather forecasters underestimated the amount of snow that would fall. My Wife rang Brands at 7am and was told the race was still on. Other than the waste of petrol nothing else was lost - the race has been scheduled.

The only saving virtue were that the pit lane walk about was sparsely attended resulting in getting photos and autographs easier. Plus I saw the 'Hairy bikers'.

One of the problems that organisers face is that tracks aren't
just used for bike meetings, there are a lot of other activities
(like Touring Cars, etc) that book circuits. Britain has a wealth
of race series all wanting to utilise a few track resources.

Also, the TT falls slap bang in the middle of the season and a lot
of teams have either riders or some form of commitment to supporting
that. You have to think that even if they DID organise a meeting there
would be fewer fans to watch it due to those events clashing.
