An economic downturn is likely to increase rizla sales, not decrease them.

Thats's because they aren't allowed to advertise anything to do with tobacco in OZ, so they have to remove "Rizla" from the fairings and leathers etc.... There was no "Marlboro" on the side of the Ducati's either.

Well, why would they sponsor BSB. They pay BSB rates for MotoGP. Pretty difficult to make it any cheaper for them. If you could sponsor a MotoGP team for the cost of BSB, then why bother with BSB.

OK now I understand why Atushi Watanabe was relocated within the Relentless by TAS Suzuki team for 2009... Guintoli has been directed to BSB's Crescent Suzuki team by Paul Denning, and I would not be surprised that he become a Suzuki MotoGP test rider as well, probably paid through the MotoGP Rizla budget.

So until now we have Polaris World in Grands Prix, and Embassy and RizLa in British series pulling the plug due to the global financial crisis... Who's next ?

This will be the first of many. Sponsership is a luxury and companies cannot afford luxuries during difficult times. Yamaha have no sponser for the motogp team next year (as yet) and they are world champions.

CIGARETTE ADVERTISING HAS BEEN BANNED IN AUSTRALIA FOR MANY YEARS. wHEN IT FIRST CAME EVERYONE THOUGHT THAT IT WOULD BE THE END OF RACING BUT PEOPLE WENT OUT AND GOT OTHER SPONSORSHIP. WHAT MANY TEAMS FORGET IS THAT FOR SOMEONE TO OFFER SPONSORSHIP YOU MUST OFFER THEM SOMETHING OF VALUE IN RETURN. THE FIRST IS A GOOD PRODUCT,IE.RACING WITH GOOD TV COVERAGE SPONSORS ACTUALLY ADD UP THE AMOUNT OF TIME THEIR PRODUCT IS SHOWN DURING A RACE,THEN THERE ARE THE PERSONAL APPEARANCES. YOU HAVE TO WORK FOR SPONSORSHIP. ONE OF THE BIG PROBLEMS IN 2009 IS WITH THE EXODUS OF RIDERS WILL THE CHAMPIONSHIP BE WORTH SPONSORS PUTTING UP THEIR CASH?
