Andrews 'gutted', Da Costa 'much happier'

MSS Colchester Kawasaki endured mixed fortunes during the latest round of the ViSK.com British Superbike Championship at Snetterton after early pace setter Simon Andrews couldn't translate his form during the races.

Things were looking good for Andrews, who will wild-card at this weekend's Donington Park World Superbike round, after he topped both free practice sessions on the Friday aboard his ZX-10R.

However, the qualifying washout left him on the back foot which he couldn't recover from in the races, Andrews eventually finishing tenth and 11th. Although 'gutted' he is satisfied the team have now got to the root of the problem.

“I'm just gutted,” he said. “I've smoked them all in the build up to these two races and what do I have to show for it? A tenth and an eleventh. At least we know why now and I know it's not me!”

By contrast, team-mate Julien Da Costa enjoyed his best ever weekend at BSB level with a run to ninth and sixth in the two races.

“My starts were rubbish in race one! The race was red-flagged and I still didn't get away well when I was given another chance to get it right. This left me too much work to do. Race two was better but starting is still an area I'd like to improve on.

“I have only done ten or so laps of Snetterton before we raced here but I like the circuit. It is very fast. I am very pleased with my lap times. My rhythm was good, the bike was good but a podium position would have made me much happier.”
