Cooper signs, back in BSB Cup class

Richard Cooper will be back in British Superbike Cup action for the remaining two rounds of the season, starting this weekend at Silverstone.

Cooper and co-ordit Yamaha will rejoin the Mirror.co.uk BSB Cup for the second time this year after an earlier outing at Mallory Park, when he qualified on the front row and finished fifth overall in race two.

The Briton, who recently made his World Superbike debut as a stand-in for Ruben Xaus at the factory BMW team, will also take part in the Cup class at the Oulton Park season finale.

"I am really looking forward to Silverstone as I think I have more experience now then when I raced at Mallory Park earlier in the season,” Cooper told the BSB website.

“I did the two BSB races at Mallory Park and I have also had a round in WSBK on the BMW so all this can only be of benefit to me.

“I feel the co-ordit Yamaha has the pace to really be competitive in the Mirror.co.uk Cup and my goal is to win those races and anything else is a bonus.”

Copper will also continue to ride in the Superstock 1000 Championship, where he presently holds fourth position.

“I will still be riding in Superstock, but it didn't seem to affect Brogie [Steve Brogan] or John McGuinness when they did both [classes], if anything it might help me as I will want to ride the Superstock bike harder!" he said.

Cooper has signed to ride with team co-ordit in 2010, although machinery is still to be confirmed.
