With just a quick four day turnaround between Donington Park and Thruxton, the teams and riders have had little chance to reflect on another eventful weekend of British Superbike action.
For many reasons the event was a happy occasion, particularly for the Airwaves Yamaha team, who saw Leon Camier extend his lead in the standings, while James Ellison celebrated a long awaited – and popular – first win to jump up to second position.
However, the event will also be remembered – potentially marred – by the accident that befell Sylvain Guintoli, one that is set to keep the Frenchman out of contention for many weeks having been diagnosed with a broken leg.
A massive blow for the series to lose one of its most charismatic riders, the circumstances of the accident – which occurred on the sighting lap when he was hit by Josh Brookes – are almost as headline grabbing as Guintoli's fate.
Nonetheless, with barely any time to take it in, attention now turns to the quickest circuit on the BSB calendar at Thruxton. The high-speed track cuts a fine line between thrilling and scary, though it never fails to produce some eventful racing – a bit too eventful if you ask Karl Harris…
With Guintoli out of service, the emphasis is now very much with the Airwaves Yamaha team, and particularly Camier, who could have made it five wins in a row in the last race had a mysterious technical problem not consigned him to an eventual 12th position.
Nonetheless, he retains the momentum having made big strides with the latest specification engine, one that certainly helped Ellison step up to competitiveness at Donington Park, leading to that first victory.
With the sole Worx Crescent Suzuki machine being handed over the Michael Rutter, who won't get the chance to test before Friday free practice, Honda are in prime position to assume the role as Yamaha's biggest rivals.
However, it is the Hydrex team that is probably best placed compared to the HM Plant outfit. With Harris on the podium twice at Oulton Park, it was Stuart Easton's turn to take the initiative at Donington Park – he went well on a Kawasaki last season, so this is arguably a superb opportunity to call himself a winner for the first time at Thruxton.
