Sylvain Guintoli will make a popular return to MCE Insurance BSB action in next Monday's round at Cadwell Park, where he hopes to give runaway championship leader Leon Camier 'a tough time'.
Guintoli received serious leg injuries during a controversial warm-up lap clash with Josh Brookes during round three, at Donington Park, but a recent test on his Worx Crescent Suzuki saw the green light given for a racing return.
"I am relaxed about coming back at Cadwell Park,” said Guintoli. “It is going to be tough as I haven't ridden in a race for these past months, but I am feeling positive.”
The former MotoGP rider had won the opening round of the series, and packed in three more podium finishes before being sidelined. Guintoli is now eager to show what might have been: “I want to be back out there and give Leon Camier a bit of a tough time.
“I think we would have had a good fight for the championship this year and although I can't win it now, I want to finish the season with some good results,” added Guintoli who is ready for the challenges posed by one of the more demanding circuits in the series.
Camier is delighted to see him back in action. “I expect Sylvain to be fast straightaway and I hope that he has good races. He was going pretty strong before Donington and hopefully will up the pace, but this is a hard circuit for anyone, a very physical one.”
Camier, who took a pair of fourths in the corresponding round of last season, is intent on extending his huge 113.5 points lead over his Airwaves Yamaha team-mate James Ellison: “I'm feeling confident and while I always want to win, if that is not possible, I will settle for good points with the title in mind.”
The winner of all but three of the races so far, Camier is eager to continue in that vein at a circuit where he suffered a series leg injury two years earlier: “I want good results for that reason, putting that tumble behind me.”
Ellison will be in contention, but at the HM Plant Honda's home circuit, expect to see Karl Muggeridge setting a good pace as he builds on his debut performances with the team in the previous round at Brands Hatch.
