It appears F2 cars do have wheel tethers, and comply with the 2005 F1 safety regs. So this definitely could have happened in F1. This has nothing to do with the F2 cars themselves.

I think it is a terrible tragedy that something like this can happen in a lower formula, esp as the drivers are so young. I'd just clarify an earlier comment about williams building all f2 cars and the senna crash in a williams f1 car: I didn't mean that williams is responsible, or anything like that.

What it goes to show is that it is not just a simple matter to go racing cheaply as Max suggested. The most important factor is safety. More so since these are young drivers who would also be alot braver to try overtaking. Sure it's a freak accident, but that's how most deaths happen. How many races did it take for F2 before this happened? Compare this with other jr formula.

Open wheel racing needs tethers on wheels no matter what the series.

Cost, or Williams or anything else had nothing to do it. It was just really bad luck.

It's tragic. But motorsport is dangerous, and no one out there is forced to do it. They all accept the risks.

RIP henry! Condolences to his family. Yes motorsport is dangerous. This accident just shows it is, could have happened in F1 just as easily, even with wheel tethers. Agreed wheel tethers should be present in all forms of open wheeler and prototype racing! Every little helps. The williams link is a coincidence and only that, it was one of the first things that crossed my mind. Most importantly though... RIP
