SRT vow to be ready for Spa

Leading FIA GT Championship team SRT has vowed to be ready for the Spa 24 Hours despite its Corvette C6.R being involved in a heavy accident during the FFSA GT Championship event at the Belgian circuit.

Soheil Ayari went off at Raidillon during qualifying at the wheel of the car which was then forced to miss both races over the course of the weekend as a result.

However, with the car having been examined, team boss Patrick Selleslagh said there was no concern that the car wouldn't be ready for the 24 Hour event.

"It all went horribly wrong,” he said. “Ayari crashed out on the Radillion and the Corvette C6.R was seriously damaged. But after a check-up, it became clear that no vital parts were touched. The engine and chassis were ok, but it was impossible for us to rebuild the car on the track, so we had to go back home, to the workshop.

“The impact of the crash was rather important, but the car will be ok for the Spa 24 Hours. We'll have lots of work, but we were already planning a complete rebuild before the Spa 24 Hours. The fight for the French championship is now over, I'm very sad for Bruno Hernandez. But let's face the future and see each other in Spa in ten days time.”

Maxime Soulet and Christophe Pillon will join SRT regulars Christophe Bouchut and Xavier Maassen for the 24 Hours.
