Gigawave shine on 24 Hour debut

Gigawave Motorsport was able to celebrate its debut in a 24 Hour race in style with a podium finish in the Spa 24 Hours.

With Allan Simonsen and Philipp Peter Peter partnered by works Aston Martin Racing driver Darren Turner, the silver DBR9 ran strongly throughout to take the flag as 'best of the rest' behind the two Vitaphone Maserati MC12s.

The trio moved into a podium position in the sixth hour and remained there until the finish, picking up a strong haul of twelve points from the event with double points being awarded during the course of the race.

“There were some exciting battles at the start and we all had a great time,” Simonsen said. “The points will really go a long way to keeping the team in the championship fight.”

The podium was the third in five races for the first year team and Turner said he was impressed with the way the Gigawave squad had worked during the event.

“There were a lot of late nights in preparation for the race and I don't know how they all stayed awake,” he said. “The drivers made no mistakes, nor were there any in the pit stops, which is fantastic for such a young team.”
