Fassler takes pole in Romania

Marcel Fassler took his third pole of the FIA GT Championship season after edging out Karl Wendlinger to pole position on the streets of Bucharest.

The Phoenix Carsport man posted a best time of 1min 15.348secs at the wheel of the #5 Corvette which saw him end up just a tenth of a second clear of Wendlinger's Jetalliance run Aston Martin DBR9.

The top two were comfortably clear, with third-placed Michael Bartels a second behind in third place, with the Maserati MC12 sharing row two with the second Phoenix car of Mike Hezemans. The Peka Racing Saleen was fifth, with Anthony Kumpen revelling in the street circuit conditions, with Alex Negrao rounding out the top six.

In GT2, Gianmaria Bruni took pole for AF Corse ahead of Andrew Kirkaldy as Ferrari dominated the top of the class. The leading Porsche, the Felbermayr Proton car of Richard Lietz, was fourth in class ahead of the first one hour race – which will decide the grid for the second one hour race on Sunday.

Half points will be awarded for both races.
