Romanian round cancelled

SRO, the promoters of the FIA CT Championship, has confirmed that the Romanian round of the 2009 season - which was due to be held on the streets of Bucharest – has been cancelled.

Despite a binding contract through to 2015 with the City of Bucharest, event organisers Bucharest Ring SRL was 'denied its legal obligation' to stage the race again this year, having successfully hosted a round of the championship in both 2007 and 2008.

As result of what the event organisers have called a breach of contract by the City of Bucharest the event has now been canned and will be replaced by an event at the Hungaroring near the Hungarian capital Budapest.

The change of venue will need approving by the FIA and will go before the World Motor Sport Council on 22nd June.
