Jetalliance focus on victories

Karl Wendlinger says the Jetalliance team will simply chase victories for the remainder of the 2008 FIA GT Championship with its hopes of securing the title having effectively come to an end in Romania.

The Aston Martin team withdrew both of its cars from the street races in Bucharest after an issue was discovered with a suspension component on the front of the DBR9, which prevented Wendlinger and Ryan Sharp from fighting for victory despite qualifying on the front row of the grid.

With no points from Spa either after an accident in the early stages, the team will now attempt to win as much as possible over the remainder of the season, even if the title is now beyond them.

“The championship train has steamed off without us,” former F1 racer Wendlinger said. “We are only focusing on the individual races now, we just want to score some good results. We have already proven many times this year that we are competitive.

“As a case in point, I finished in the top three of every qualifying session – with the exception of Monza, where I suffered a tyre failure. I'm convinced that we will play an important part in the battle for victory at Brno.”

With the series not visiting Austrian soil, the Brno weekend is the closest thing to a home race for the Jetalliance squad and team boss Lukas Lichtner-Hoyer said the team was determined to fight for victory in front of the Austrian fans expected to make the trip.

“The ambience at Brno has always been very good,” he said. “We want to add our contribution to make sure the Austrian fans will drive home contentedly – and perhaps be able to celebrate something with us beforehand, meaning that we want to get involved in the battle for victory.

“We are only looking ahead from now on.”
