Following the launch of the 2009 FIA GT Championship season at Paul Ricard, Reiter Engineering has announced that it will build a car to the new GT1 regulations set to come into force next season.

The team will build a car based on the latest generation of the Lamborghini Murcielago, and should be in a position to give it a race debut later this season.

It would make the Lamborghini the third car to be built to the new rules to compete in the series this year, alongside the new Ford GT1 and the NISMO-developed Nissan GT-R.

“As some of you may know, Lamborghini has recently released a new version of the Murciélago, SV version, 670 hp, 6.7 litre, and this will be our car for the GT1 World Championship,” team boss Hans Reiter said.

“Unfortunately, the car is not ready yet as it was only launched in March, but should be ready for the second part of the season.”

Reiter has already developed a GT1 Murcielago to the current rules (pictured), and has also developed both GT2 and GT3 versions of the smaller Gallardo.
