Vitaphone inherits Adria pole

Vitaphone Racing will start the second round of the FIA GT Championship from pole position after the pole-sitting K plus K Saleen was stripped of its times after qualifying.

Karl Wendlinger had given the Saleen team its second successive pole during the session for the Saturday evening race, but the #14 car was then excluded from the times when it failed post-race scrutineering over an issue with its bodywork.

It means Andrea Bertolini inherits pole for the Vitaphone team having outpaced the sister Maserati MC12 in the hands of Alex Muller by just 0.002secs. The Corvettes of Xavier Maassen and Anthony Kumpen will share row two, with the SRT Corvette of James Ruffier and the Full Speed Saleen of Ferdinando Monfardini completing the top six. Monfardini was followed on the times by the two 2010 GT1-spec Ford GTs, which round out the top eight.

In GT2, youngster Martin Ragginger took an impressive pole in the Brixia Racing Porsche, but the BMS Scuderia Italia Italia car that had qualified in second will also go to the back of the field after failing the right height test.

It means AF Corse pairing Gianmaria Bruni and Niki Cadei move up to second and third in class.
