Sutil officially confirmed by Force India
28 February 2013
Adrian Sutil will race with the Sahara Force India F1 team this season, it has been announced.
Although news of the German's appointment broke on Wednesday, the Silverstone-based team took until mid-day on Thursday to officially confirm it.
“The decision over our driver line-up has not been an easy one and we have given it great consideration over the last few months,” explained Dr Vijay Mallya, Sahara Force India team principal and managing director.
“It was a close call, but ultimately we felt that Adrian's experience and historic links to the team gave him the edge, and will provide us with the best possible chance of realising our ambitions for the coming season.
“If he can rediscover the exceptional form he showed in the second half of 2011, I'm confident that we can pick up where we left off at the end of 2012.”
Sutil sat out 2012 after being passed over in favour of Nico Hulkenberg but, with his fellow countryman now ensconced at Sauber and the GBH accusations of 2011 behind him, he gets the chance to return, meaning there is no race seat for Jules Bianchi, who was the other main candidate for the drive and who acted as Force India's test and reserve pilot in 2012.
“Jules has impressed us enormously with his speed and work ethic,” Mallya added, “and I'm hopeful we can continue working with him this year to help him develop into a future Grand Prix driver.”
