Giedo van der Garde got off to a confident start in the Singapore sprint race and led from then all the way through to the chequered flag, with even a restart following a safety car for a spin by René Binder not presenting any problems for the Caterham driver.
iSport's Marcus Ericsson held on to second place ahead of Racing Engineering's Fabio Leimer throughout the race despite struggling near the end with tyre degradation issues.
In the team championship battle between DAMS and Lotus, Davide Valsecchi managed to get ahead of Esteban Gutiérrez for fifth place at the start and controlled things from there, his position buttressed by the arrival of team mate Felipe Nasr behind them in seventh place. Gutiérrez' team mate tried to surge through the positions to lend support to the team campaign, but stalled in tenth place.
Sergio Canamasas caused bewilderment when he failed to respond to any radio communications, official flags or team pit board messages when handed a drive-thru penalty for his mechanics being late leaving the grid ahead of the formation lap. Canamasas was black flagged and excluded from the results although he only finally came in when the car developed a technical fault.
