Double disappointment for Krohn

Krohn Racing endured a tough start to its Grand Am Rolex Series season after both cars were forced out of the Rolex 24 at Daytona.

The first disappointment came shortly after the six hour mark, when the #76 car ground to a halt in third place with Darren Turner at the wheel.

The car was recovered to the garage where it was determined that the crank sensor wasn't receiving a signal from the trigger in the engine, but changing the sensor failed to fix the problem – leading the team to retire the car with an engine issue.

However, things went from bad to worse when the same issue then hit the #75 car just after the 13 hour mark leaving both entries out of the race and Krohn taking a watching brief.

“The information we have received from our engine tuner is the we have suffered the same failure in the #75 car as we suffered earlier in the #76, as well as, we believe now, the #6, #60 and #61 cars, which is a failure of an engine component,” team manager David Brown said. “It requires the removal of the engine, stripping of the front of the engine, stripping the front of the spare engine, taking the old part out of the that and put that in the engine of the car.

“By the time we do that, we'll be in exactly the same position that we are now if we don't run again. Therefore there is no point in running. Very disappointing though it is, this is the end of our 24 Hours of Daytona.”
