Brumos Racing will face an extra challenge this weekend as it seeks to add to its Rolex 24 win in the second round of the Grand Am Rolex Series season at Virginia.

The team took a 1-3 finish in the Rolex 24, with David Donohue, Darren Law, Buddy Rice and Antonio Garcia taking the #58 car to victory in the closest finish to the round-the-clock Daytona event.

On what will be an emotional weekend as the team marks the second anniversary of the passing of the late Bob Snodgrass, the team will be forced to deal with post-Daytona rule changes to the six-cylinder Porsche engine.

As a result, the team will be forced to run a five-speed gearbox at Virginia as opposed to the six speed 'box used at Daytona, while the RPM of the engine has also been reduced.

Having used the Homestead test last month to adapt to the new specification of the car, the team's regular pairings will now hope to challenge at the front again in the second round of the year, with Law admitting he was confident for the weekend ahead.

“Brumos has done well at VIR often in the past, and we have been hard at work since Daytona getting ready for this race, so we will hope to see a repeat of our past successes there,” he said. “We are in a good position in points and it is still very early in the season, so we feel confident. Mostly, I think we are all just really looking forward to getting back to racing again.”

Joao Barbosa, who share the #59 car with JC France, admitted he couldn't wait to return to action after the three-month break and said he was hopeful of building on the podium finish at Daytona.

“I am certainly ready for what seems to me to be the real start of the season, and can't wait to get back in the car again,” he said. “VIR is a technical track that I enjoy driving a lot. Last year we had some bad luck there, but I believe we can keep the momentum from 2008 and our podium finish at Daytona going strong this year.

“We know the competition is going to be tougher than ever and the rule changes will be an added challenge, but I believe in Brumos Racing and all of the hard work everyone has put in. We will do our best and see how it all turns out, but we definitely plan to be back on the podium again.”
