Three penalised for rule infractions

Three Rolex Sports Car Series teams have been fined and penalised for rule infractions committed at the latest round of the championship, at Barber Motorsports Park, last weekend.

Two Daytona Prototype teams, the race-winning #99 GAINSCO/Bob Stallings Racing Pontiac Riley and second-placed #01 TELMEX Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates Lexus Riley, as well as the #86 Farnbacher Loles Racing squad competing in the Acxiom GT division, were the guilty parties, all after being caught using equipment in violation of Section 9-7 of the rule book, covering refuelling equipment.

The infractions were discovered following the race on 19 July and, although the race results will not be altered, each team and driver was assessed a 15-point penalty in their respective championship as well as being handed financial fines. The DP teams were punished to the tune of $15,000, while the Farnbacher Loles team was fined $7500.
