Scheckter rejoins the fray

Tomas Scheckter will be the next driver through the revolving door that leads to the #23 Dreyer & Reinbold Racing Dallara, as he replaces Milka Duno for the ABC Supply/AJ Foyt 225 at the Milwaukee Mile this weekend.

Duno returned to the car for the first oval of the season, in Kansas, as warm-up to last weekend's Indianapolis 500, with Darren Manning getting the nod for the street course events in St Petersburg and Long Beac. Now Scheckter comes to D&R as rookie Mike Conway's third team-mate in five races.

The South African was touted as having the backing to guarantee a ride in this year's IndyCar Series and was linked to a possible second car at newcomers Team 3G. That, however, came to nought, leaving him to shop around for a chance to compete at Indy, although his eventual berth at Dale Coyne Racing - which yielded twelfth place at the Brickyard - was not among the most obvious candidates for a tie-up.

The deal was just a one-off, but, just as Scheckter thought he was about to be cast back into the jobless line, DRR came calling with the opportunity to race at Milwaukee.

"We are excited to have Tomas join our team," team co-owner Dennis Reinbold said, "We have talked to him on a number of occasions about doing something together and this opportunity came up to pair him with Mike for the weekend. We feel like we are going into Milwaukee very strong as a team."

Scheckter has competed at The Mile four times previously in the IndyCar Series, with a best finish of third in two of those outings - with Panther Racing in 2005, and the following year with Vision Racing.

"I've been talking to Dennis and Larry Curry, who I have had a relationship with, for a while and we have been in and out of here a couple of times," Scheckter confirmed, "For us to put this together is great and I'm really looking forward to it. It will be good working with some people that I have worked with before."
