Tracy to make early return

After an abortive stand-in role at AJ Foyt Racing, Paul Tracy's IndyCar Series season will pick up ahead of schedule when he makes a return to the GEICO-sponsored KV Racing Technology car at the Camping World Grand Prix at Watkins Glen over the weekend of 3-5 July.

The 2003 Champ Car World Series champion was already slated to appear with KVRT at the two Canadian events on this year's schedule - at Toronto and Edmonton - but has added an outing at one of America's most iconic road courses at the behest of Indianapolis 500 sponsor GEICO Insurance, and will again run the predominantly red #15 Dallara-Honda alongside Brazil's Mario Moraes as KVRT returns, briefly, to being a two-car outfit.

“Running Paul at The Glen with Mario gives us the opportunity to maximise our efforts on a very challenging road course, and provides Paul with a tune-up race before he competes in front of his hometown fans in Toronto,” KVRT co-owner Jimmy Vasser noted, "I want to thank GEICO for stepping forward and making this possible, and I think I can speak for everyone at KVRT when I say that we are all very excited.”

After much talk between himself and Vasser pre-season about a full schedule in 2009, Tracy made his KVRT debut at this year's Indianapolis 500, where he qualified the GEICO car 13th and finished ninth, after running as high as fourth. Remarkably, given his lengthy career, the Canadian's fourth IndyCar event will be his first on the 3.4-mile Watkins Glen layout.

“I want to thank GEICO Insurance, Kevin Kalkhoven and Jimmy Vasser for the opportunity to compete in another race this year,” Tracy admitted, "I really enjoyed working with [general manager] Mark Johnson and the entire team at Indy last month, and was looking forward to racing in the two events in Canada. Now I have the opportunity to compete on one of the most famous circuits in the world for the first time. It feels a little strange that at this stage of my career that there are still some exciting challenges left - and racing at Watkins Glen, with all its history, is definitely a challenge - but it is one I am looking forward to meeting.”

It would be great to see PT do well at the Glen. He usually shines at road courses and if KVRT can give him a decent car, I would not rule out a top 3 finish.
