Audi on track for titles after Peugeot woe

Audi are on course to secure the Le Mans Series title after main rivals Peugeot hit trouble at Silverstone.

Nic Minassian and Marc Gene went into the weekend with a two point lead over Mike Rockenfeller and Alex Premat in the standings but were forced into retirement when Minassian made contact with the GT2 Porsche on the IMSA Performance team coming onto the Hangar Straight.

The car became briefly airbourne before making contact with the barriers and was left nursing extensive damage, although Minassian escaped uninjured.

After a Safety Car period to clear up the damage, the sister car of Stephane Sarrazin and Pedro Lamy was involved in contact with the Audi of Allan McNish and Dindo Capello and both cars went off into the gravel trap.

The two Audi's now hold first and second with the remaining Peugeot outside the top 20 as it fights back from a pit-stop required after the contact.

As it stands, Audi will take the drivers' and manufacturers' crowns.
