Corvette squad secures GT1 crown

Luc Alphand Aventures pairing Guillaume Moreau and Patrice Goueslard were able to celebrate title success in the Le Mans Series after successfully wrapping up the 2008 GT1 championship at Silverstone.

The pair went into the weekend with a ten point lead in the standings over Team Modena duo Tomas Enge and Antonio Garcia, meaning they only needed to bring the #72 Corvette C6.R to the finish in order to lift the crown.

Having qualified in third place, Moreau utilised a clever strategy to take the class lead but a loose wheel meant he lost his advantage when forced to make an unscheduled stop.

Team-mate Goueslard then took to the track for his stint and spent more than 60 per cent of the race at the wheel of the car before handing back to Moreau for the run to the flag.

Although the Modena Aston took victory, third place for the Corvette was good enough to lift the crown.

“It's a great reward as it was far from being a foregone conclusion at the start of the season,” Moreau said. “We never had the quickest car, but everybody did their bit. Philippe Poincloux was an excellent race strategist; the mechanics did an exceptional job in the pits; I added my turn of speed and my team-mates were always able to keep up the pace.

“To sum up, nobody made any mistakes this season and that's the key to our titles, which we won in the best endurance tradition. I'd like to thank everybody for this exceptional year and I hope we'll share other successes in the future.”
