Reed wins AMA Motocross Championship

Chad Reed claimed his first AMA Motocross Championship title on Saturday at Budds Creek Motocross Park.

The Suzuki star, who narrowly lost the 2009 Supercross Championship to James Stewart, wrapped up the Outdoor title two rounds early with 2-1 race finishes at Budds Creek.

The Australian has taken nine moto wins from the 20 races so far held, and sits an uncatchable 104 points clear of nearest rival Andrea Short (Honda).

"I feel like my career is complete, though I also feel like I have a lot of fight left in me but this is definitely a step in the right direction," said Reed, a double AMA Supercross champion.

"In the first moto, I was pretty disappointed that I didn't put myself in a position to win. Winning the Championship is what this hard work is all about and I want to thank everybody at the Rockstar Makita Suzuki team because everybody did a great job.

"We were a last-minute entry and we gave it our all. We are all very, very happy to get this championship," Reed added. "I am looking forward to savouring the last two races of the series and putting on a show for the fans."

Stewart did not take part in the Outdoor championship.
