Pourcel conquers Portugal

Pourcel ended Teka Suzuki's perfect start to the new season with 2-1 moto finishes, from pole position. Monster Yamaha's Davide Philippaerts matched the Frenchman on points, with 1-2 race finishes, but Pourcel's race two gave him the overall.

Nevertheless, Philippaerts' second consecutive podium gave the Italian the MX1 title lead for the very first time, by six points over reigning world champion Steve Ramon.

The final Agueda podium position went to Philippaerts' team-mate Josh Coppins, who claimed fifth in race one before snatching a surprise third place in moto two at the very final corner - from Teka Suzuki star Ramon, victor in the Bellpuig mud one week ago.

CAS Honda's Billy Mackenzie led both motos, but dropped to sixth overall due to mistakes, while Ramon's team-mate Ken de Dycker - the world championship leader heading into round three - suffered a dismal weekend, finishing just 19th.

The MX2 class saw reigning double world champion Cairoli clinch two dominant race wins for his first grand prix victory of the year. KTM team-mates Tyla Rattray and Tommy Searle joined the Yamaha rider on the podium after each claimed one second and one third position - Rattray's higher race two results handing him the overall runner-up spot.

Cairoli now leads the MX2 point standings by five points over former leader Rattray, with Searle 19 points further back in third.

FIM Motocross will now take a weekend off before the Bulgarian Grand Prix at Sevlievo on May 11th.
