Chris Vermeulen at Portimao WSBK test

Chris Vermeulen may not have been allowed to take part in the post-season Portimao World Superbike test, since he still has one more race as a Rizla Suzuki MotoGP rider, but the 2010 Kawasaki signing was still present in the Paul Bird Motorsport pits.

"I was hoping to get a ride on the bike at the Portimao test, but my current team does not want to release me from my current contract until the GP season is finished, which is completely understandable," Vermeulen had said, upon confirming his Kawasaki deal last month. "So my first ride should be at Autopolis in Japan on 18th and 19th November."

James Toseland also rushed back to Europe after Sunday's Malaysian MotoGP round. But since Toseland is remaining with Yamaha next season, the Monster Yamaha Tech 3 rider has been allowed to test in Portugal.

Testing at Portimao concludes on Wednesday.
