de Puniet fastest of 'seventh place contenders'

Randy de Puniet finishes free practice at Valencia in fifth position, ahead of Andrea Dovizioso on the factory Honda
Randy de Puniet began his quest to snatch seventh position in the final MotoGP standings off to a good start by emerging as the best placed satellite rider during practice for the Valencia Grand Prix.

The Frenchman currently sits 12 in the standings, but is just seven points behind seventh place men Loris Capirossi and Marco Melandri, with only this weekend's race in Spain remaining.

Focusing on race set-up over the course of the session, de Puniet put in a series of consistently fast laps on the LCR Honda to set the fifth fastest time, ahead of factory Honda rider Andrea Dovizioso.

“It's been a good start here today. After the technical issues we faced in Sepang we came back to our base set up and it all seems to be working quite well!

"The bike is more stable in the concerns thus I can easily lap consistently fast. There are some small things to adjust in tomorrow's sessions but the overall package makes me quite confident for the race”.
