125: Title contenders up front

Talmacsi led much of the half hour session, but home hero Faubel struck back with a minute to go. Talmacsi then literally matched the Spaniard, before Faubel pulled 0.146secs clear on his final lap.

Sergio Gadea made it an Aspar Aprilia one-two-three, and his performance could prove critical on Sunday since countryman Faubel needs at least one rider between himself and Talmacsi to take the title - even if he wins.

First qualifying – Valencia:

1. Faubel (Aprilia)
2. Talmacsi (Aprilia) +0.146secs
3. Gadea (Aprilia) +0.247secs
4. Corsi (Aprilia) +0.502secs
5. Pasini (Aprilia) +0.758secs
6. Cortese (Aprilia) +0.945secs
7. Pesek (Derbi) +0.946secs
8. Terol (Derbi) +1.146secs
9. Nieto (Aprilia) +1.396secs
10. Rabat (Honda) +1.498secs

15. Smith (Honda) +1.556secs
26. Webb (Honda) +2.969secs
